What would a trip away from home be without a visit to a spa? For me the degree of pampering and the benefits of limber muscles, a line-free face, and smooth hydrated body, turn a good vacation into a great one. On our recent journey in Niagara Falls U.S.A. I was “Queen for a Day”… well anyway for 4 hours!

The Spa is located in the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel which was a short walk from The Giacomo Hotel where we were staying – it seems everything in Niagara is a short walk from the Giacomo, which could not be in a better location (see Niagara Falls story)

Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel Eagle Sculpture

The Seneca Hotel lobby is beautifully decorated with Seneca Nation artifacts and legends. Center focus is a massive wooden sculpture of an Eagle that incorporates five elements of significance to “the people”. The Eagle is the sacred bird to all native peoples and represents their connection to the Great Spirit. The rear of the sculpture is carved in the shape of a Wolf, one of the eight clans of the Seneca Nation. The braided front legs represent antlers and the Deer Clan. The back leg represents corn, a staple of their diet. At the center of the Eagle’s wing is the Hiawatha Belt signifying the Five Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. The Seneca Nation was known as The Keepers of the Western Door; to the east lived the Cayuga, the Onondaga, the Oneida and the Mohawk. In the center of the Hiawatha Belt is the Tree of Peace under which the five nations agreed to live in harmony… a potent symbol that our modern world could well emulate.

The Spa suite has a direct elevator to the 3rd floor which opens into a soft welcoming space. The menu of services includes Massage, Body Healing Therapies, Facials, Hair and Nail work, along with specialty services like Make-Up Application.  There are steam and sauna suites along with whirlpool, all facilities are spotless and well-kept. A pool and fitness center is available to registered Hotel guests. I took a morning off from sightseeing around Niagara to indulge my passion for pampering at The Spa.

I have been having some lower back problems and discussed them with my therapist Stephanie. Stephanie performed the Tranquility Signature Massage which incorporates different techniques according to the needs of the client. She began with a hot stone back massage, followed with hot towels to warm and relax the muscles. Sinus pressure is relived along with a scalp massage if the client chooses. The massage ends with reflexology, so from top to bottom, she did a wonderful job of relaxing my tense muscles and concentrating on gently working the distressed lumbar region. I almost kissed her fingers after the massage; I haven’t felt that good and pain free in many moons.

Stephanie handed me over to Michele who determined a Green Coffee Body Wrap would suite me well. This anti-cellulite formula draws out impurities and overhauls the entire body in this 50 minute treatment and since it was performed after my massage, my body was open and welcoming to absorb the nutrients. After I was cleaned off, I showered to remove the residue while Michele prepared the table for my facial. The 50 minute facial was customized to my “mature” skin and included an eye and lip treatment. My skin was cleaned, exfoliated and a series of masks and fragrant smelling creams were gently massaged in. My face lost at least 10 years during that facial and kudos to both Stephanie and Michele for their absolutely stellar work.
