Palatial in Vegas

As Las Vegas continues its explosive growth, established properties are begetting "twins":  the Wynn is readying to inaugurate the next-door Encore, while the Venetian (actually its parent, the Sands Corporation) has just launched the neighboring Palazzo – a $1.8 billion high-rise constructed to meticulous detail, inside and out.

The all-suite Palazzo (www.PalazzoLasVegas.com) picks up right where the Venetian leaves off – literally. The new resort hotel and casino is connected seamlessly to its sister property: the Grand Canal Shoppes that line the Venetian’s famed indoor waterway extend right into The Shoppes at the Palazzo, whose retail outlets comprise more than 60 international boutiques, anchored by Barneys New York and featuring some truly unusual browsing venues, such as a rare book store.

A very different way of crossing between hotels is via the famed Canyon Ranch Spa Club spa and fitness center. When its expansion into the Palazzo premises is complete, Canyon Ranch will be the largest spa and treatment center in Sin City.

The Palazzo also continues another trend set by the Venetian: showcasing world class restaurants. Among the gourmet establishments finding a home in the Palazzo are entries from such celebrity chefs as Wolfgang Puck (CUT), Mario Batali (Carnevino), Emeril Lagasse (Table 10) and Charlie Trotter (Restaurant Charlie). In addition, the first Las Vegas outposts of the popular Morels French Steakhouse and Bistro (Los Angeles) and Dos Caminos Mexican Restaurants (New York) have found a home here.

Dining options are not limited to your traditional restaurant venues: The 40/40 Club is a unique sports bar and lounge (owned by Jay-Z), while Dal Toro serves up food on the patio of an exclusive Lamborghini dealership.

The Palazzo also refuses to be outdone in the area of entertainment; it has built a special theater to become the multi-year Las Vegas home of the Broadway hit musical “Jersey Boys.”

Of course, what is most important to guests staying in a hotel are the rooms – and the Palazzo’s suites are loaded with amenities. Each spacious unit features a sunken living room off the bedroom, furnished with a sofa sleeper and equipped with a complete personal office: a fax machine, printer and copier ready to be connected to your laptop (in addition to wireless high-speed Internet access).  Remote-controlled Roman shades and curtains adjust the amount of natural light in the room from the comfort of your king-size bed. There is almost wall-to-wall televised entertainment: two 32" flat-screen TV’s in the bedroom and living room, plus a 17" LCD television in bathroom.

If you haven’t had a chance to stay in the elegant Venetian yet, now you can skip straight to the spanking new Palazzo and enjoy the best of both Italianate worlds.
