New Notes from Dublin
Most of Giorgio’s business associates believe that Thornton’s Restaurant (128 Stephen’s Green), chef Kevin Thornton’s establishment in the Fitzwilliam Hotel, offers the best dinning experience in Dublin with artistically presented dishes that are light but masterful. This is a highly personalized cuisine using fresh local ingredients, the closest one can come to Nouvelle Cuisine in Dublin. The service is efficient and friendly. An in-depth Bordelaise cellar with a very good variety of wines from other parts of France and the world as well, adds to the experience.
On a lazy Sunday morning, try Seasons, the restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel on Simmonscourt Road. We enjoyed brunch there, and the outstanding service and excellent cuisine result in what is, I think, the best brunch I’ve had, second only to the one at Peacock Alley in New York’s Waldorf=Astoria (Editor’s Note: Please see Peacock Alley in Brunch in the City). Charred Venison Cranberry and Apple Salad, Irish Scallops Prepared Five Ways, Smoked Veal Loin and Celeriac Rémoulade, are some of the outstanding dishes offered at the tasting station. Sitting by the conservatory windows with an abundance of flowers surrounding us, it was an unforgettable experience.
Owner/chef Eamonn O’ Reilly has set his elegantly romantic restaurant One Pico (5-6 Molesworth Place) in an 18th century coach house, in a lane off St. Stephen’s Green. The cuisine is French, with definite Irish overtones, the service is solid, the wine list is outstanding. This is one of Dublin’s smartest dinning rooms.
