The Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel is set off from the traffic in Bel-Air, California in a seven-acre setting that's fit for everything from a wedding to a weekend getaway. When we stepped into the lobby, we put the Los Angeles noise behind us and felt that we had found a welcome sanctuary.

When we were ready for activity, however, all we had to do was drive back out to Sunset Boulevard and N. Sepulveda Boulevard, and we were just minutes away from everything we could want to do. The hotel's address at 11461 Sunset Boulevard is listed in Los Angeles but is located where Brentwood and Bel Air meet.

With two buildings, one at a higher elevation than the other, guests can be transported to the upper building by van or golf cart. There is also a tennis court on the grounds with a pro available to give lessons. A 15-passenger van is also available to take guests anywhere within a three-mile radius of the hotel - first come, first served.

My favorite part of staying at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard was the size of our room. It was one of the most spacious I have experienced anywhere in the world. The two double beds were opposite a coffee and tea area. Adjacent to the beds were a desk area and a large couch and coffee table for lounging.

The bath contained two sinks, a bathtub, and a separate shower. I had a nice soak in the tub after a long day of hard sightseeing in the car. Okay, not exactly a hard day, but it was still nice to soak in a deep tub.

Of course, I always appreciate complimentary WiFi throughout a property, and Luxe provides that. I'm also happy when there's an iPod docking station in my room - another amenity at Luxe.

The pet-friendly property is all non-smoking with 160 rooms and suites, 90 of which have a private balcony or patio. You can choose between a city view or a pool view. There are different room types: Superior rooms (552 square feet), Deluxe rooms (585 square feet), Executive Junior suites (672 square feet), and one-bedroom Luxe suites with a wet bar and a sunken soaker tub. There are also four "Vista" suites, each 615 square feet and in a different color with private patios and marble Jacuzzi tubs.

The hotel is well-known for its jazz brunch on Sundays, which often includes guitarist Del Casher, famous for having invented the wah-wah pedal. There is a zen-inspired spa on the grounds, as well as a fitness suite and a business center. Spa and room packages are available, and you can also book a spa party that includes skin and body treatments, catering, and private instruction. It's a great idea for brides and their bridesmaids.

There is a large bar lounge on site and a restaurant run by Chef Olivier Rousselle called “On Sunset”. You can eat in the dining room, order room service, or eat while lying in the California sun by the pool. The dishes include roasted natural Scottish salmon with lemon and scallion mascarpone risotto and citrus beurre blanc. In the summer, the hotel holds barbecues by the pool.

The outdoor areas at Luxe Sunset Boulevard made me wish I had a reason to plan a garden party, a wedding, or a wedding reception. It's very romantic when lit, and there's plenty of space for large guest lists. A big ballroom is also available that can be divided into four breakout spaces.

The pool area at the hotel is especially beautiful. It really gives you a taste of Hollywood glamor but in a low key atmosphere without feeling any of that famous Hollywood "pressure."

Besides the size of our room, I think my favorite aspect of staying at Luxe Sunset Boulevard was the tranquility. It's so close to the hustle and bustle of the city, but you'd never know it once you're on the hotel grounds.
